3 Reasons Why You Need to Hire a Proposal Photographer

Mar 31, 2022

Proposing to the love of your life can be one of the most blissful and/or most nerve racking experiences. Usually, you only plan to do this once, and no matter how big or small, photos have a way of capturing emotion and will be something you will look back on for years to come. With that in mind, let’s jump into the 3 Reasons Why You Need to Hire a Proposal Photographer:

1. YOLO

If you don’t know what YOLO means by now, jump back about 10 years and listen to some OG Drake 😂 But in all seriousness, you only live once, and to capture a moment in time is literally our specialty. The shots will speak for themselves. The proposal will be over quicker than you know and to hold that in the palm of your hand is one of the most precious things you will look back on. Thoughts, words, things fade, but photos capture moments and emotion in time. Having a great creative there to document your proposal can be the difference between trying to remember the details or reciting the sweet words said and knowing how it felt when their knee hit the ground.

2. Money Shots 1 / Self Timer 0

No, I don’t mean literal money, I’m talking about that post where you tell the whole world “I’m engaged – look at my ring!!!”. The last thing you want to be thinking about is trying to take a nice photo with the right backdrop, lighting, angle or not blink when the self timer goes off on your phone; *in steps photographer*.

The photographer doesn’t just take the one shot during the proposal! After settling in, I like to come over and congratulate you both, then jump into a little mini engagement shoot. This is where we can get an awesome shot of the ring, an all-round-cheesy to stick on Grandma’s fridge and then of course, some more intimate, special ones too.

3. Get Comfortable

This is a great opportunity to warm up to the feeling of being in front of the lens and negate any camera anxiety. One of my favourite feelings is showing someone an epic shot of them and seeing their eyes light up.

It’s a good opportunity to scope out a wedding photographer *nudge* and see how they work. One of the most important things when you go to book your wedding photographer, is that you vibe with them. You will likely spend the whole day together, so you will want to book someone that makes you both comfortable and matches your energy. I believe your decision is 50% style and imagery they create, and 50% vibes. So hiring a proposal photographer can be a great way to experience them in action.

Keep In Mind…

Before we wrap up, I’d like to add one more take.

You know your partner. You know yourself. If you know that you both prefer privacy and don’t care for photos, then Don’t hire a proposal photographer. I can guarantee the photos will not be “right”, no matter who’s shooting it. Emotions and feelings truly do come across in images (and video!).

Staying authentic to your personalities and who you are deep down is much more important.

Hiring a Proposal Photographer is a great way to make sure all those special moments and details are captured. You only do this once and the last thing you want is serious FOMO or mad “ragrets”. Spending 20 minutes setting up the perfect self timer photo only to realise when you get home that it’s out of focus is the worst! It’s the perfect way to shake off those camera jitters and even experience your future wedding photographer.
